Welcome Back Dr Lelala

Dr Bruce Lelala

It is with great excitement that we welcome home Dr. Bruce Lelala, one of our esteemed Plastic Surgeons.

Dr. Lelala has spent the last 6 months completing a fellowship in Microsurgery & Oncoplastic Breast Surgery making him the only black South African microsurgeon with a fellowship of this kind.

We are very happy to have Dr. Lelala back again and we are excited to see the many lives you will touch with your expertise, experience and motivation to passionately help people.

Dr. Lelala will be consulting from our Hyde Park Corner clinic in Johannesburg.

A Quick Q&A

1. What is Oncoplastic Breast Surgery?

It is a sub-specialty in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery where oncologic & reconstructive surgery principles are merged utilising a spectrum of Aesthetic enhancing techniques to manage tissue defects after breast cancer resection and optimise cosmesis, helping patients to heal both mentally and physically.

2. How will this fellowship assist you to help others?

I am currently the only Black African Microsurgeon with a Fellowship in our country, I am hoping that I will be able to share my knowledge & skills, train young Plastic Surgeons who are interested in the field of Microsurgery & Oncoplastic Breast Surgery while also helping thousands of patients who have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. As a Microsurgeon I am trained to reconstruct patients who have been involved in major trauma accidents, patients with large defects from cancer, babies born with severe congenital malformations etc, this is a scarce skill in our country and the African continent at large with less 15 Microsurgeons with Fellowships in South Africa.

3. Do you have a special & personal message to share with our patrons?

Thank you to everyone who gave me support during this journey, it was not an easy one, I have earned my stripes 🙂 I am super excited and looking forward to our next milestones, let show the world what SCINMed is made of.
