Reshape, reduce and flatten your abdominal region with an abdominoplasty or “Tummy Tuck”.
ABDOMINOPLASTY (TUMMY TUCK)
A contoured body and smoother tummy appearance can have a positive effect on your confidence and self-esteem. With the help of a surgical Tummy Tuck you can get the flat and toned tummy that has just not been possible through normal exercise and dieting. There’s a misconception that only those who are excessively overweight can benefit from a tummy tuck, but sometimes even people with a normal body weight could experience a protruding, lose or sagging tummy.
The most general causes for the loss of shape and form in our abdomen includes:
- Weight fluctuations
- Genetics (hereditary)
- Prior Surgery
During the procedure an experienced Plastic Surgeon will flatten your stomach by removing extra fat and skin to create better contouring in that area. In a lot of instances they will also help to restore the weakened abdomen muscles and patients who choose a healthy lifestyle generally have long-lasting results.
WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Technically yes, but a tummy tuck will not replace the need for a healthy lifestyle, exercise program and healthy diet. Fluctuations in your weight could negatively impact your results and women who still plan to fall pregnant are generally advised to wait with the procedure until afterwards.
During a tummy tuck some excessive skin might be removed. If the stretchmarks appear in these regions they will be surgically removed together with the excess skin, but it is important to note that a tummy tuck, will not correct stretch marks.
This is a serious operation, and it is advised that you consult the service of a Plastic Surgeon who has experience in the procedure for the best results. The procedure usually takes between one and five hours.
A Tummy tuck is classified as contouring surgery and if you need the fat removed around your tummy the Plastic Surgeon will recommend that you include liposuction in the process.
In the few days following your tummy tuck operation it is normal to experience fatigue, swelling and soreness while your body takes time to heal itself. Allow yourself enough time to heal and doctors recommend two weeks of dedicated recovery time for abdominoplasty.
Dressings, bandages and compression garments will aid the recovery process, minimize swelling and support it. Sometimes the doctor will place small tubes under the skin to help with the draining of blood and other fluids. Every surgical procedure comes with its own set of post-operative care instructions, and it is important to ask your doctor all the questions you can about the removal of garments, showering habits, wound dressing, medication, wound-cleaning treatment and when to schedule a follow-up appointment.
The extent of the procedure, your age, health status and how you take care of yourself afterwards are all factors that can influence the recovery time. Most patients resume their normal activities within 2-3 weeks, but it is recommended that they wait up to 4 weeks before engaging in strenuous exercise again. Each case is unique and therefore get answers around your recovery directly from your Surgeon.
Major medical surgery is never without risk. Potential risk factors during and after abdominoplasty could include cases of bleeding, infection or potential anaesthesia-related complications. Generally, however, abdominoplasty is considered a fairly low-risk procedure with little chance of complication.
