Technically yes, but a tummy tuck will not replace the need for a healthy lifestyle, exercise program and healthy diet. Fluctuations in your weight could negatively impact your results and women who still plan to fall pregnant are generally advised to wait with the procedure until afterwards.

During a tummy tuck some excessive skin might be removed. If the stretchmarks appear in these regions they will be surgically removed together with the excess skin, but it is important to note that a tummy tuck, will not correct stretch marks.

In the few days following your tummy tuck operation it is normal to experience fatigue, swelling and soreness while your body takes time to heal itself. Allow yourself enough time to heal and doctors recommend two weeks of dedicated recovery time for abdominoplasty.

Dressings, bandages and compression garments will aid the recovery process, minimize swelling and support it. Sometimes the doctor will place small tubes under the skin to help with the draining of blood and other fluids. Every surgical procedure comes with its own set of post-operative care instructions, and it is important to ask your doctor all the questions you can about the removal of garments, showering habits, wound dressing, medication, wound-cleaning treatment and when to schedule a follow-up appointment.

The extent of the procedure, your age, health status and how you take care of yourself afterwards are all factors that can influence the recovery time. Most patients resume their normal activities within 2-3 weeks, but it is recommended that they wait up to 4 weeks before engaging in strenuous exercise again. Major medical surgery is never without risk. Potential risk factors during and after abdominoplasty could include cases of bleeding, infection or potential anaesthesia-related complications. Generally, however, abdominoplasty is considered a fairly low-risk procedure with little chance of complication.
