FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
If you are unhappy about the roundness, general shape or size of your butt, you might be a good candidate for this type of surgery. It is however important to be healthy and have realistic expectations around what can be achieved through surgery. The consultation with your Plastic Surgeon will include questions around your desired outcome and the proposed procedures to potentially address your personal concerns.
Gluteal augmentation is more about adding to the volume of your buttocks and Liposuction can be added for improved contouring and fat removal if needed.
Like most surgeries there are a couple of risk associated with this procedure. Your Plastic Surgeon will explain all the associated risks and ensure you understand the procedure and potential complications. It is important to ask all the questions you have around it and to be certain before going ahead.
There’s a range of precautionary measures your doctor will explain to you pre-surgery that include:
- Do not omit health details during your consultation with the Plastic Surgeon.
- Avoid blood-thinning agents and medications like aspirin and herbal supplements including Ginkgo biloba, St. John’s wort and garlic supplements.
- Avoid anti-inflammatory drugs, vitamin E, fish oil or any medication containing these products for 14 days before and 48 hours after surgery.
- Avoid smoking before surgery.
After your procedure, it is common, and completely normal, to experience bruising and mild swelling, aching or throbbing. Below are some precautions you can take after your surgery to ensure a full and swift recovery:
- Prolonged sitting should be avoided for two weeks or sometimes longer
- Sleeping with your face down will also aid the healing process
- Keep incisions dry when bathing/showering and avoid warm and lengthy baths.
- Wear the compression garment after surgery to control swelling and decrease bruising. Compression garments assist with the shaping and are important to achieve your desired results.
- Take the medications as prescribed by your doctor, which might include antibiotics to prevent infection.
- Maintain a healthy diet and stay hydrated.
- Avoid vigorous exercise, but try not to be stationary.
- Surgeons recommend wearing a sports bra 24 hours a day for up to 3 months after breast surgery (confirm this with your surgeon).
The results from this type of surgery is almost immediately visible. A full recovery from the surgery is however required to appreciate the full results. Tissue will continue to settle in the 3-6 months after surgery and the scarring could take up to two years to mature.
If you follow a healthy diet and do exercise, the results of this procedure should be long lasting. Aging could have some impact on the firmness over time and sometimes more than one surgical procedure might be necessary.
