WRINKLES ON THE DÉCOLLETÉ

Collagen and elastin are proteins that give your skin its firm appearance. These proteins live in the second layer of your skin known as the dermis. The main reason one would get wrinkles, is due to these proteins breaking down or production of these proteins slowing down, resulting in visible fine lines in the décolleté region.

Sun tanning in a low-cut top can give you a good tan, but this comes at a cost. Free radicals, which are toxins produced by the environment, are produced when you are exposed to the sun’s UV rays. These poisons can subsequently cause your skin’s elastin fibres to break down. Without sun protection, UV rays speed up the wrinkle process.

When a person loses a lot of weight, this too can influence the appearance of the skin as this causes sagging skin and wrinkles. When you lose fat under your skin layer, your protein fibres do not shrink back and can result to wrinkles in the décolleté area. There are also other factors like smoking, genetics, pregnancy and even wearing the incorrect bra and shapewear that could also contribute to the development of wrinkles in the décolleté region.
