Mouth wrinkles, also known as perioral wrinkles, is the general term used to describe the lines one can develop around the lip and mouth area.
One of the first places on your face to develop wrinkles is the mouth. This is partly due to the thinness of the skin, which has less collagen than other areas of the body.
There are more particular subtypes of mouth wrinkles to be mindful of such as smile lines, marionette lines and vertical lip lines. Smile lines, which are also known as laugh lines or nasolabial lines, are the wrinkles that occur along the sides of the mouth. Marionette lines develop with aging and run from the corners of the mouth, downwards towards the chin. Vertical lip lines, also known as pucker lips or smokers’ lips, affect the lip area only. They are wrinkles that develop along the outer lips as well as directly on the lips themselves.
