Dr Gertruida van Niekerk’s passion for reconstructive surgery started at a very early age. With a definitive calling towards reconstructive and congenital abnormalities she qualified in 2019 as a Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon and continues to specialise today in all areas of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.
She enjoys working with children and is super-specialised in Cleft, Craniofacial and Paediatric Plastic Surgery after completing her fellowship in the United Kingdom (Great Ormond Street Hospital, London). Her love for these specialised reconstructive and congenial procedures, together with her appreciation for the unconditional gratitude in children’s smiling faces, keeps her inspired to help where there’s a need and she actively contributes through charities that deals with facial abnormalities like the Smile Foundation (S.A) and Operation Smile (International).
Her continued interest in creating better lives for people through reconstructive surgery also led to the recent, further specialisation around Microsurgical Reconstruction in breasts and lower limbs at the St. George Hospital (London, UK).
